E-Mail from Sgt. James Miervaldis
Oct. 11, 2009
Hello Mr. Hirsch,
Greetings from Camp Bucca! Thank you so much for the generous care packages you all sent from Operation Shoebox New Jersey. They really meant a lot and were a perfect reminder of home.
You might not know this, but I was actually a volunteer at one of the packings in Somerset back in 2006. It was great to be a part of your effort and three years later it is even more incredible to me to be on the receiving end.
I will enclose my cell phone number at the bottom of this letter so that hopefully, if you are doing another mailing in December, I can be a part of it and say thank you in person. By the time you get this letter I should already be back in the U.S.; however, some good friends of mine who I grew up with will be heading north of Baghdad, so I'm sure they could use a few care packages.
Again, thank you so much for keeping me and my unit in your thoughts. We finished our mission well and will be returning with honor. You played a big part in that.
Sincerely,
Sgt. James Miervaldis
