Hi Rod,
I'll be sending more t-shirts when I am able to in addition to a flag that is flown here in Iraq.
So the good stuff. Recently, as I'm sure you've read online, violence is down more than ever before. There are 26 million people in Iraq (roughly), which equates to New York City, Baltimore and Chicago. There has been more violence there than here. The progress is unreal. I have spoken with several friends of mine from my first trip here who are very happy to hear about the progress, knowing that they contributed to the fight when it was a lot more active. Personally, I have not heard a single bomb or bullet since I arrived two months ago. Unfortunately, I don't go into the city like I did last time, but the Iraqi citizens I meet here on the base are very happy with the security situation.
The products you sent lasted about three days before they were gone. I especially liked the Guardian Wear Shorts. Someone read my mind, I only brought two pair with me and shorts are necessary for working out. The girl scout cookies didn't last five minutes. Thank you again on behalf of all of us who benefited. There is a thank you card in the mail that should reach you shortly signed by several of my colleagues as well as myself. I will also be sending thank you's to some of the organizations listed in the letters.
Thanks for everything. Your support means the world to us. A Marine I met here told me how much it meant to him that people can still find time to be generous when the economy is slanting downward. I assure you, that sentiment is echoed by many others. We truly thank you for your generosity and support.
