E-Mail from 1stLt George A. Saenz, Jr.
To the Operation Shoebox Team,
Thank you for the boxes that we received here at Camp Leatherneck! We received 12 of them the day before yesterday.
In 2007 you and your team provided my platoon of combat engineers with an unending stream of care packages while I was at Camp Fallujah, Iraq. For that I am eternally grateful.
This deployment, I am based in Helmand Province, Afghanistan and working as the Aide de Camp to the Commanding General of the 10,000 man Marine Expeditionary Brigade. We are part of the recently approved “surge” to this part of the country. Conditions here are certainly more austere than they were for us in Iraq. However, Marines being Marines, we thrive in this type of environment and we’re certain that we can make a positive impact the same way we did in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.
Please know that the care packages you send to us here are a tremendous morale booster. It is a deeply rewarding feeling knowing that there are people at home who are willing to donate time out their busy schedules to support those of us that are far away from family, friends, and home. Words cannot express the gratitude we have for folks like you.
I’ve included a picture of myself so you can see who I am. Again, thank you for what you are doing.
SEMPER FIDELIS!
